Opening round lightning delay pushed afternoon schedule back.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's golf team was unable to complete its second round of play at The Icon Invitational in The Woodlands, Texas, Monday. A first round lightning delay pushed the afternoon's schedule back, leaving a trio of Tigers with holes left to play in the second round when darkness forced the stop of play.
Michaela Fletcher, Madison Thomas and Ana Dawson all have holes remaining to finish on Tuesday. The remainder of the second round holes will tee off at 8 am with the tournament's final round set to tee off immediately after the second round holes wrap up.
The field did all get the first round of play in. Memphis fired a 313 in the opening round.
Sydney Colwill led Memphis with an opening round 76 (+4) while teammates Fletcher and Dawson each scored first round 78s (+6). Abby Herrmann (81) and Madison Thomas (83) rounded out the Memphis first round scores.
Southern Miss' Henriette Syr and Purdue's Melati Putri led the field with opening round 68's (-4), while Clemson's Alice Hewson and Purdue's Danielle DuToi were two strokes back at 70 (-2). In all, 12 players carded rounds of par or lower on Monday morning around the lightning delay.
The final round of play is scheduled to begin once the second round holes are completed. Rain is expected in the Houston area again on Tuesday. To follow the tournament, including scores and delay information, follow www.GolfStat.com.
