Tigers host Missouri, Minnesota in home-opening weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After six matches away from home to start 2019, the Memphis women's tennis team is set for its home opener as the Tigers will host a pair of matches this weekend at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
Memphis (2-4, 1-1) will face Missouri Friday at 3 p.m. and take on Minnesota Sunday at 10 a.m. Friday's contest will feature free pizza and drinks to fans. Admission is free to all UofM home matches.
The Tigers split a pair of league matchups last weekend. After dropping a 4-2 decision to ECU last Friday, Memphis claimed a 4-3 thriller against Tulane on Sunday. Junior Katherine Cao enjoyed a 3-1 weekend, including the match-clinching victory in a three-set bout against the Green Wave. Sophomore Lina Hohnhold drove her singles win streak to four after a pair of straight-set victories last weekend.
Missouri (6-1) visits Memphis on a three-match win streak. The Tigers most recently defeated AAC foe Wichita State in a 4-2 win last Wednesday. Junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks anchors the top spot for Missouri with a 6-1 record. Sophomore Ellie Wright holds a team-best eight match win streak dating back to the fall. Wright has posted a 7-0 mark this spring, all coming at the No. 4 position in the lineup. Middlebrooks and Wright have also teamed up to post a 5-0 record in doubles play.
Minnesota (5-1) has won its last five contests, including a pair of sweeps against South Dakota and Northern Iowa last Friday. Junior Tina Kreinis is 3-2 at the top spot for the Gophers. As a team, Minnesota is 10-2 in doubles competition.
The Tigers and Gophers have split the all-time series, 1-1, with Memphis claiming a 4-3 win last season. Missouri leads the series against Memphis by a 6-2 margin.
