Women's tennis notches 4-3 victory at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Memphis women's tennis erased a 3-1 match deficit to claim a 4-3 league win against Tulane Sunday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
Despite dropping the doubles point, Memphis (2-4, 1-1) found singles wins on courts 1, 2, 5 and 6 for the victory.
"Today was a great match that came down to a tiebreak in the third set. Tulane was a very tough opponent and we were fortunate to leave here with a win," Head Coach Hayden Perez said. "The Tigers showed some great mental toughness down the stretch, and (Associate Head Coach) Ryan (Haymond) and I are very proud of them."
Tulane struck first in doubles with wins on courts 1 and 2.
Memphis began its response when sophomore Laura Bente claimed a straight-set victory at the top spot.
Tulane pushed its lead to 3-1 after wins on courts 3 and 4, before Lina Hohnhold turned in a 6-3, 6-1 win. The triumph marked the sophomore's fourth consecutive singles victory.
Sophomore Alisha Reayer battled back from a first-set tiebreak loss to win in three sets to even the contest. With all eyes on court 5, junior Katherine Cao outlasted Tulane's Adelaide Lavery, 10-8, in a third-set tiebreak to clinch the match for Memphis.
The Tigers will return to Memphis and prep for their home opener this weekend. Memphis will host Missouri on Friday before facing Minnesota on Sunday.
