MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis men's soccer's senior forward Sam Ashton was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team, the organization announced Monday morning.
"We are really proud of what Sam was able to accomplish individually and collectively this fall," Head coach Richard Mulrooney said. "He really stepped up and made the most of his senior year. We couldn't be prouder and we know he has a bright future ahead of him."
Ashton received the honor after leading the Tigers in scoring with 11 goals in 2019, marking the first time a Memphis player has scored double-figure goals in a single season since 2012.
The Portsmouth, England native was previously named to the American Athletic Conference's First-Team All-Conference list following his senior season. Ashton was one of five AAC players to score 10-plus goals on the year.
This fall, Ashton helped lead Memphis to its first 10 win season since 2011. At then-No. 10 Xavier, the forward scored all three goals in the 3-2 overtime win. His hat trick was the first for a Tiger since 2012. Ashton also registered a multi-goal game against Saint Louis, bookending the scoring in the 3-2 victory.
Ashton joins former Tiger David Zalzman in representing Memphis on the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region team.
