Track And Field Opens Season at BSC Icebreaker

McMiller resets her school record in the women's weight throw.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Memphis' DeeNia McMiller reset her school record in the women's weight throw to lead the Tigers track and field effort at the BSC Indoor Icebreaker Friday.
McMiller shattered her school record by over five feet with a throw of 72-10 (22.20m). Her previous school mark was 67-9.75 (20.67m) recorded at last year's American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, where she won silver in the weight throw.
Friday's meet, which was held at the Birmingham Crossplex, was the season opener for the Tigers.
The Tigers posted six first-place performances in the men's high jump (Jordan Wesner), men's weight throw (Adar Sheere), men's shot put (Iason Machairas), women's high jump (Ladasia Walton), women's shot put (Mona Jaidi) and women's weight throw (DeeNia McMiller).

Tigers Tidbits
- Eleven performers made their debuts for the Tigers Friday, including six freshmen.
- In addition to DeeNia McMiller, Samantha Lenton and Kathryn Hise set personal-bests in the women's weight throw. Lenton improved her personal-best effort by nearly seven feet, and Hise by more than six feet. The three Tigers combined to improve their personal-bests by an average of just over six feet (72.4 inches; 217.25 total inches).
- Kathryn Hise and Samantha Lenton also set personal-bests in the women's shot put. Hise improved her effort by more than a foot, while Lenton's toss was nearly a foot better than her previous-best.
- Mona Jaidi had the Tigers' biggest personal-best improvement in the women's shot put. She surpassed her previous-best by nearly two feet.
- On the men's side, Robby Watson, a transfer from Southern Miss, improved his personal-best in the weight throw by more than two feet. His previous-best came two seasons ago when he competed for the Golden Eagles.
- Paris Perkins set two personal-bests in the women's 200 and 400 meters. She placed second in both events.
- Jamaya Fleming ran a personal-best in the women's 200 meters.
- Ladasia Walton set a personal-best in the women's high jump by two inches.
- Armond Poindexter improved his time in the men's 800 meters by two seconds.
- Sam Jones set a personal-best in the men's triple jump by two inches over his previous effort.
