Achiuwa earns third league honor

Tigers freshman is named to the AAC Weekly honor roll
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the third time this season, University of Memphis freshman forward Precious Achiuwa was recognized by the American Athletic Conference.

Achiuwa was named to the league's weekly honor roll Monday, one week after earning Freshman of the Week honors. Achiuwa led the Tigers to a 97-55 victory over the University of New Orleans Saturday at FedExForum behind his fifth double-double of the season. Achiuwa finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds – both team highs – in leading the Tigers to their ninth consecutive victory.
In his past eight games, Achiuwa has finished with double-figure rebounds seven times. He had nine rebounds in the other game.

Achiuwa is averaging 14.3 points and a league-leading 9.8 rebounds for the Tigers, who remained No. 9 in the weekly Associated Press poll, which was released Monday.
Earlier this season, he was named Freshman of the Week (Dec. 23) and Player of the Week (Nov. 25).

The Tigers (11-1) open conference play at 8 p.m. Monday against Tulane at FedExForum. CBS Sports Network will carry the game. The UofM concludes a four-game homestand Jan. 4 against Georgia.
