Tigers claim four titles to close fall season

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Memphis women's tennis capped its fall slate on a high note with two doubles and two singles titles on the final day of the Roberta Alison Classic.

"A pretty solid weekend for the Tigers. Winning four draws out of 12 is a great result," head coach Hayden Perez said. "This tournament had very tough competition including schools such as Clemson, Alabama, Northwestern, Wisconsin and many others."

Aran Teixido Garcia and partner Katherine Cao turned in a pair of 7-5 victories to earn the crown of their draw. Lina Hohnhold and Josephine Cao captured the second doubles title of the day for the Tigers, claiming a pair of 6-1 victories in their draw.

In singles, Hohnhold collected her second title of the weekend, claiming a three-set tiebreak win in her draw. Freshman Monique Woog collected the Tigers' second singles crown, also turning in a three-set thriller for an impressive start to her rookie campaign.

"Lina really stood out on the weekend, going 3-0 in doubles and 3-0 in singles for a 6-0 record," Perez added of the junior. "In the finals of her draw, she won 7-6 in the third set to clinch, which is pretty impressive.

"For others, they didn't finish the fall as strong as they would like, and I hope it will fuel their desire to prepare for the spring. The tough competition we faced here is similar to what we will face in the spring, and we need to prepare for that."
