Senior named one of 15 for college soccer's most prestigious award
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a record-setting season in her senior campaign, women's soccer senior Stasia Mallin was named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the Missouri Athletic Club announced Tuesday afternoon.
Mallin was listed as one of 15 semifinalists for the award, which is presented annually to college soccer's most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winner will be announced in early January at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
"I can't be prouder of Stasia for getting this recognition. It's so well-deserved," head coach Brooks Monaghan said of the senior's nod. "She's been such a big part of this program since she's been here. It's been an unbelievable journey for her. For someone to come in and not play a lot her freshman year to now having this honor – she really defines what players are capable of if they buy in and work their tail off. She is the epitome of that."
The captain finished her senior season with career highs in goals (3) and assists (14) and posted two game-winning goals. Mallin earned First Team All-Conference honors at the end of the regular season and was also named to the 2019 AAC All-Tournament team.
Her 14 assists currently rank fourth nationally and rank second in Memphis single-season history. Her 29 career assists claimed the conference record for career assists, while also ranking third in program history.
From the backline, Mallin helped the Tigers post 12 shutouts throughout the year, which rank tied for third-most in single-season history. She also claimed the league's Defensive Player of the Week honor three times this season and five times throughout her career.
In the classroom, Mallin was voted 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District after claiming 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America honors. The biomedical engineering major is a three-time All-AAC Academic Team member and has been named to the Tiger 3.0 Club and Dean's List each semester of her career.
