Madison Griggs paces Tigers with 24 points with school-record eight three-pointers
TOLEDO, Ohio – Using a combination of scorching shooting percentages and freshman Madison Griggs' record-setting day, the UofM women's basketball team defeated the Toledo Rockets, 83-76, Sunday afternoon to improve to 3-3 overall.
Griggs led the way with 24 points, one of five Tigers to score double-digit points in the win. Combined with a season-high 23 free-throws, the Memphis offense hit on all cylinders as the Tigers took the road win.
 Â
The first quarter saw the home team get off to a fast start, quickly getting out to a 12-4 lead over the Tigers. Memphis settled in on the defensive end after that, pairing with three consecutive three-pointers from Griggs. After trading buckets before the end of the quarter, the Tigers and Rockets stood at 16-16 after the first period.
Â
Memphis took a four-point lead early in the second quarter, as Gazmyne Herndon connected on back-to-back buckets. Toledo responded with an 11-2 run to take a seven-point lead of its own through the heart of the second quarter.
Â
Settling the team down with a timeout, the Tigers responded in a big way. Starting with a layup from Alana Davis, the Tigers embarked on a 17-5 run to claim a 39-32 lead at the midway break. Down the stretch, Griggs would hit two more three-pointers, giving her five triples in two quarters. Â
