Men's tennis turns in eight wins on first day of FGCU Open

BONITA BAY, Fla. – Memphis men's tennis registered eight total victories in its first day of action at the Bonita Bay FineMark Collegiate Open, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University.
Memphis began the day claiming three of four matches in doubles play, and used the early advantage for five wins in singles.
Tandems James Story and Jan Pallares along with David Stevenson and Jeremy Taylor etched 6-2 wins in doubles. Senior duo Marshall Sullivan and Matt Story etched a 6-3 win to give Memphis its third doubles victory of the day.
In singles, Pallares, Stevenson and Patrick Sydow each turned in straight-set victories to continue the momentum. Oscar Cutting and James Story scratched out three-set wins of their own to close the day. After claiming their first sets, Cutting and Story outlasted their opponents with a 10-8 and 10-6 tiebreak win, respectively.
