First time since 2016 Memphis landed two on the list
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the first time in their careers, Memphis football players Brady White and Dustin Woodard have been named first-team Academic All-District as announced by CoSIDA this week. This marks the first time since 2016 that Memphis has landed two on the list after Jake Elliott and Daniel Montiel were selections.
Currently pursuing his doctorate in humanities, White carries a post-graduate grade-point average of 3.80. He has been a Tiger Scholar for Memphis the last two years and was named to the 2019 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
In addition to success in the classroom, the on-field accolades continue to come in for White as he was most recently named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award. He has also been named a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and was named to the CFPA Midseason Watch List.
The Newhall, California native has thrown for 2,511 yards this season with 23 touchdowns to just four interceptions. In his career, he has six, 300-plus yard passing games.
Woodard is named to the first-team all-district list as a management major with a 3.445 GPA. At the end of October, Woodard was selected as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. He is also a semifinalist for the 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy and was named to the Outland Trophy and Rimington Trophy Watch Lists this summer.
He has started in a program-high 47 games in his four-year career at Memphis. After starting at left guard his first two seasons, Woodard moved to right guard as a junior and is now Memphis' starting center.
Last season, he blocked for the most prolific offense in program history, setting school records with 7,324 yards and 76 offensive touchdowns. The 2018 offense ranked seventh in scoring nationally, fourth in total offense and fourth in rushing offense. He also blocked for a 3,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard rushers and a 1,000-yard receiver.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
