List cut to 20 finalists Tuesday.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Redshirt junior quarterback Brady White was named one of 20 finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award presented by A.O. Smith, Tuesday. Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation cut the list from 48 to 20 finalists based on player performance on-and-off the field.
Now in his second season at Memphis, White has already moved to seventh in Memphis career history with 4,459 passing yards and fifth with 37 touchdown passes. He also holds the individual career pass completion record at 64.7 percent.
The lone quarterback from the AAC on the list of finalists, White has helped Memphis to a 5-0 record and a 1-0 start in American Athletic Conference play. So far this year, White ranks ninth nationally in passing efficiency (183.50), eighth in yards per pass attempt (10.16) and 11th in completion percentage (73.3 percent). He is 81-for-113 for 1,163 yards and 11 touchdowns through five games this year.
White has already completed both his undergraduate and master's degrees at Memphis and is currently enrolled in a PhD program.
He and his teammates are back in conference play Saturday at Temple. That game will kick at 11:00 a.m. (CT) and will air on ESPN2. Memphis returns home for its only home contest in the month of October next weekend, hosting West Division foe Tulane in a 6 p.m. (CT) contest. That game will be Memphis' Cancer Awareness Game.
Cancer survivors will be celebrated at the Tulane game on Oct. 19. For $20, cancer survivors receive a game ticket and access to the cancer survivor tailgate. That package also includes a chance to walk with the Tigers and be part of a cancer survivor photo on the field before pre-game.
