Volleyball Falls On The Road At Cincinnati

Gehler paces the Memphis effort with 13 digs, three assists.
CINCINNATI, Ohio – University of Memphis sophomore Kaitlyn Gehler posted a team-high 13 digs, but it wasn't enough in Cincinnati's 3-0 win in American Athletic Conference action Friday night.
The Bearcats won the match by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18. With the setback, the Tigers fell to 13-8 overall and 2-7 in the league. Cincinnati is now 16-5 overall and 8-1 in the conference.
Friday's match was the 33rddouble-figures digs match of Gehler's career and her 15thof the season. Gehler has posted double-digit digs in 13 of the Tigers' last 14 matches. Gehler now has 685 career digs.

- Friday's meeting was the only regular-season encounter between the two longtime rivals. From 2014-18, Memphis and Cincinnati played twice (home and away) each season.
- Hannah Flowers is closing in on the 900-kills milestone for her career. After her eight kills Friday, the junior right side hitter now has 891 for her career.
- Sabrina Bianco had two total blocks Friday for her third multi-block performance in the last five matches.

First Set
- Cincinnati jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed.
- The Bearcats extended their advantage to eight at 16-8.
- An Anna Palmer kill cut the Cincinnati to seven at 17-10, but the Tigers got no closer.
- Cincinnati closed the opening set on an 8-4 run for the 25-14 win.
Second Set
- Memphis grabbed a 3-1 lead on a Meredith Wallace kill and a Gigi Crescenzo ace.
- A Wallace ace kept the Tigers in the lead at 7-6.
- However, that's when the Bearcats took over the set.
- Cincinnati used a 9-4 spurt to take a 15-11 lead.
- The Tigers, though, did not fold.
- Memphis answered with a 4-1 spurt to close to within one at 16-15.
- Wallace ignited the run with three kills. Hannah Flowers added another kill.
- The Tigers did not get the equalizer, and Cincinnati closed the set on a 9-2 run for the 25-17 win.
Third Set
- Cincinnati led early, but an Andrea O'Connor kill pulled Memphis to within one at 8-7.
- The Bearcats used a 3-0 spurt for some breathing room at 11-7.
- Cincinnati held a 15-13 lead, but consecutive points off Palmer's service game tied the set at 15-all.
- Memphis remained within striking distance and trailed 19-18 after another O'Connor kill.
- The Bearcats, though, finished the set with a 6-0 run for the 25-18 win and 3-0 match victory.
