The Memphis Tigers
Last time out for Memphis saw the Tigers drop a home match to Central Arkansas. The lone scorer of the match for Memphis was Artur De Luca, who put in a 30-yard free kick in the 77th minute. The score marked De Luca's second of the season and two-consecutive games with a score for the Sao Paulo, Brazil native.
Memphis ranks in the top-20 in the NCAA for a number of offensive categories. The Tigers find themselves with the 11th-best scoring offense, putting in 2.31 goals per match. They also rank tenth in points per game (6.85), 14th in total goals (30), 15th in total points (89) and 17th in total assists (29).
By scoring against Central Arkansas, the Tigers reached the 30-goal mark for the first time since 2012. Led by Sam Ashton's nine goals, ten different players have put a ball in the back of the net, with eight of them scoring multiple times.
Despite missing the last two matches, Ashton's nine goals still rank in the top-20 in the NCAA, checking in at 18th overall. His goal total also ranks second in The American. Christoforos Kourtis, who leads Memphis with six assists, ranks 33rd in the NCAA.
With nine wins on the season, the squad has tied head coach Richard Mulrooney's best win-total at the helm of the Tigers. Mulrooney's first year, 2014, saw the team finish with a 9-7-2 record. After defeating SMU in Dallas, Memphis set a new program record with its fifth-consecutive road win, besting a mark that had been reached several times in school history.
A Look at the Golden Hurricane
The Golden Hurricane are coming off of a 1-1 draw with Denver on Tuesday. After surrendering a goal in the first few minutes of the second half, a goal from Harris Partain in the 86th minute of regulation tied up the match at its eventual final score.
Partain's goal against Denver was his ninth of the season, which leads the team and is tied for second in the AAC. No other Golden Hurricane player has more than one goal on the year, but ten other players have added a goal at some point during the schedule.
Head coach of the Golden Hurricane is Tom McIntosh, now in his 25th season at the helm. McIntosh has 254 career wins as a head coach, the 33rd-most among active Division I coaches.
