UofM's 7-foot-1 freshman named to The Sporting News All-American team
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With a little more than a week before the season officially starts, University of Memphis 7-foot-1 center James Wiseman is accumulating honors as fast as he is expected to score points.
Thursday, The Sporting News named Wiseman to its preseason All-American team, just two days after he received similar recognition from the Associated Press.
The honors began pouring for Wiseman starting last week. He was chosen second team preseason All-American by CBS Sports and to the watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award. Additionally, he was selected to the American Athletic Conference first team and the league's Preseason Rookie of the Year.
Wiseman, ranked No. 1 in the 2019 recruiting class, led East High to a state title as a junior and to the state title game as a senior. As a senior, he averaged 25.8 points and 14.8 rebounds.
Memphis, ranked 14th in the AP Top 25 poll, opens at 7 Thursday night against CBU in an exhibition game at FedExForum.
Season tickets are available by calling 901-678-2331 or by going online to GoTigersGoTix.com.
