Get To Know Me: Nehemiah Augustus
Oct 02, 2019 | Football
Redshirt junior linebacker has seen action in all four games in 2019.
NOTE: The Nehemiah Augustus "Get To Know Me" feature first appeared in the Sept. 7 Memphis Football GameDay program when the Tigers hosted Southern.
As a small-town kid from Patterson, La., an hour from really anything, Nehemiah Augustus drew the attention of then-Arizona State deputy head coach Mike Norvell during the 2015 recruiting process.
It's not that he wouldn't have committed to Arizona State, but once Norvell was named the head coach at Memphis in December of 2015, the decision was easier for Augustus.
Augustus, though, may never had been in a position for an opportunity like this had it not been for his older sister, Keaundra. She has been his driving force to be successful in all that he pursues.
"My inspiration is my sister," said Augustus, who has 38 total tackles and four quarterback hurries in his two seasons. "She has told me to never give up and to give 110 (percent) every day. I really do a lot of things for her. Although she was in school at one point, she had to drop out, and she has become my biggest motivation to never give up."
Let's learn a little more on Augustus off the field:
I started playing football when… in seventh grade. I actually quit once because I didn't know how to put on my shoulder pads. I tried again my eighth-grade year, and I got better from there.
My majors are… communication and sociology (double major). If football doesn't work out, I want to have a back-up plan. I want to be a broadcaster or work in communications.
When I'm not at practice, you can find me… on campus at the UC (University Commons).
The best lesson I've learned is… to keep God first, and to have patience and never give up.
If I could have dinner with any three people, they would be… LeBron James, Meagan Good and Michael Jordan.
The most famous people I follow on Twitter are… all former Memphis Tigers football players in the NFL (Tony Pollard, Darrell Henderson, Genard Avery).
The No. 1 thing on my bucket list is… to go bungee jumping.
