Tigers drop 4-1 decision at No. 1 Wake Forest

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Facing the top-ranked team for the first time in program history, Memphis men's tennis provided a close contest but dropped a 4-1 decision to Wake Forest Saturday evening to cap the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

The Tigers (5-1) kept pace at the top two spots in the opening point before Wake Forest earned a break to close out court 2 and seal the doubles win.

In singles, the Deacons (5-0) picked up a win at the top spot, and then extended its lead to 3-0 behind a tiebreak win on court 4.

Freshman Oscar Cutting notched Memphis' first win of the day on court 5. The England native collected a straight-set victory for his fifth singles win of the young season.

Wake Forest clinched the match shortly after on court 6. Junior Matt Story's match was left unfinished, while junior Jan Pallares took a 1-0 lead in the third set before play concluded.

Memphis returns to the Racquet Club of Memphis for a double header on Friday against Arkansas Pine-Bluff with first serve set for noon.
