Men's tennis turns in double-header sweep against UAPB

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis men's tennis turned in a pair of victories behind a double-header sweep against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday afternoon at the Racquet Club of Memphis.

The Tigers improved to 7-1 on the season, which matches the best eight-game start since 2012.

Memphis took control against a short-handed Lions team with a doubles win to start the day.

Six Tigers turned in singles victories in the day's first match. Chris Patzanovsky, Oscar Cutting and Marshall Sullivan each turned in 6-0, 6-0 sweeps, while Jeremy Taylor and David Stevenson added straight-set victories.

Patzanovsky drove his record to 5-1 this spring. Cutting's victory propelled him to a 6-0 singles start.

In the second match of the day, the Tigers again established momentum early with a doubles victory. Jan Pallares and Patrick Sydow improved their dual-match doubles mark to 6-1, while Matt Story and Turner Voges collected their second doubles victory in as many matches as a duo this year.

In singles play, Memphis continued its impressive play with six more wins. Voges notched his second dual-match singles win of the season with a straight-set decision. Story improved to 4-0 on the season, and Stevenson posted his second victory of the day. Sydow turned in a straight-set sweep, while Pallares capped the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The Tigers continue a four-match homestand next weekend against Michigan State and LSU at the Racquet Club of Memphis. Friday's contest against Michigan State is set for 6:30 p.m. Memphis will close the weekend with a noon first serve against LSU on Sunday.
