MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Seeking to build on the momentum of a 4-0 start, Memphis men's tennis will hit the road for the first time in 2019 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Tigers will open play Friday against Old Dominion with first serve set for 1 p.m. (CT). The four-team field also includes BYU and host No. 1 Wake Forest.
In their last outing, the Tigers swept Jackson State in a double header on Sunday. Freshman Patrick Sydow collected four wins on the day, including the match-clinching point in the day's second match. Chris Patzanovsky, Matt Story, Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson also continued their strong start to the spring with singles victories.
Old Dominion (2-0) enters the weekend after wins against Temple and South Carolina State. Jannik Giesse and Nicola Vidal both started their dual-match season with a pair of singles victories.
The Tigers and Monarchs have split the all-time series, 1-1. Memphis claimed the most recent matchup, a 5-2 victory in Norfolk, Va., in 2012.
