Men's tennis set to host Belmont, Jackson State this weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a season-opening victory against Big Ten foe Northwestern, Memphis men's tennis seeks to keep the momentum rolling as it hosts Belmont Friday evening and Jackson State in a double header Sunday at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
The Tigers (1-0) return to the court following a 5-2 victory against Northwestern on Sunday. Senior Chris Patzanovsky clinched the match after a three-set battle at the top spot. Juniors Jan Pallares and Matt Story along with freshman Oscar Cutting also turned in singles victories against the Wildcats.
First serve against Belmont is slated for 6 p.m. Free pizza and soft drinks will be served while supplies last.
Belmont opens its 2019 spring slate on Friday. The Bruins return seven letterwinners to their roster, including the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in junior Hendrik Inno. Sophomore Marko Ilic and junior Vincent Sterkens also received All-OVC accolades last season.
Memphis leads the all-time series 3-0 against Belmont. Friday's contest will mark the first meeting against the Bruins in dual-match play since 2000. The Tigers hold a 9-0 mark all-time against Jackson State, including a 7-0 decision against the visiting Tigers last season.
First serve of Sunday's double header begins at 11 a.m. Jackson State (0-2) enters the weekend after dropping a twin bill at Auburn last Friday. The Tigers return senior Andrey Alawi and junior Fritz Jacobs from a season ago.
