Former Tiger forward expected to be an asset for Cheshire Phoenix
Former University of Memphis basketball player Jimario Rivers will continue his basketball career overseas.
Â
Cheshire Phoenix, a team in the British Basketball League, announced the signing of the 6-foot-8 Rivers this week to its 2018-19 roster. Rivers averaged 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in two seasons at the UofM and shot 52 percent from the field.
Â
At Cheshire Phoenix, Rivers will be re-united with Daniel Norl, a former teammate at Kenwood High in Clarksville, Tenn.
Â
Rivers averaged 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds last season for the Tigers. He started 24 of 32 games he played.
Ben Thomas, coach of Cheshire Phoenix, expects Rivers to be an asset.
"His versatility at the forward position along with his unbelievable athletic ability is going to cause a lot of problems for our opposition," Thomas said. "He has a great work ethic and is an elite defender who will match up with anyone who is put in front of him. He really is going to be one to watch this season."
