Memphis Travels to Birmingham for Soccer For A Cure Classic

Tigers to Face Coastal Carolina and Fairleigh Dickinson Over Weekend
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers continue their five game road trip, heading down to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the UAB Soccer For a Cure Classic. Memphis will play a pair of matches, starting with Coastal Carolina on Friday at 4:30 p.m., and will wrap up the weekend by battling Fairleigh Dickinson at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Memphis enters the weekend after an opening week in which the team finished 1-0-1, the best two-game start since 2011. Opening night saw the Tigers end in a double overtime draw against SIUE, with each team finding the back of the net twice. Senior midfielder David Zalzman and redshirt sophomore Chris Mikus each scored in the match.
An early offensive explosion Sunday evening earned the Tigers their first victory of the young season. First-year player Peyton McKnatt punched in two goals in the first period, providing a cushion for the second half.
Coastal Carolina
The first matchup of the weekend is against the 18th-ranked Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina. After a 14-9-2 season and a third round exit in the NCAA tournament, the Chants look to build off of last year's success. So far in 2018, Coastal Carolina has gone 1-1, losing to UCLA before beating nationally-ranked Georgetown in double overtime. In the 112th minute, Yazeed Matthews found Tsiki Ntsabeleng for the gamewinner.
Head coach Shaun Docking enters his 21st season at the helm of the Chanticleers. Docking has won over 250 matches during his tenure at Coastal.
Fairleigh Dickinson
Fairleigh Dickinson begins the year after finishing 2017 with a 10-5-3 record, including a 7-1-1 road record. Opening week for the Knights ended with a 1-0-1 record, having tied their season opener before winning their first home match of the year. Through the first two matches of the season, Ahu Obhakhan has netted all three of Fairleigh Dickinson's goals.
Before facing Memphis Sunday morning, the Knights will face tournament-host UAB on Friday. The Tigers have previously faced Fairleigh Dickinson once before, grinding out a 1-0 win in 2012.
