Preparations for the 2018 football season begin
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A youthful yet experienced Memphis Tiger football team took the field together at the Billy J. Murphy Complex for the start of the 2018 fall camp on Friday. The Tigers begin their preparations for the season in a familiar spot, picked to win the West Division of the American Athletic Conference for the second-consecutive season.
"I thought it was a good day," Memphis head coach Mike Norvell said following Friday's first practice. "A lot of things that you usually see, there's so much anxiety to get on the field that guys' heartbeats are rolling a little quicker. There's a lot of competition and a lot of things that I really enjoyed watching and seeing how guys were competing."
Memphis will go through preseason preparations throughout the month of August, leading up to the season opener against Mercer on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. (CT) at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
The preseason hype is nothing new for the Tigers, who made good on last season's preseason expectations, posting a 10-3 record and winning the program's first West Division Title, with a 7-1 league record.
Fans have the opportunity to attend one of the Tigers' practices, on Saturday, Aug. 11, as Fan Fest will begin at 4 p.m. An equipment sale kicks off the event, followed by a 4:20 p.m. scrimmage and a 6 p.m. autograph session. Parking and admission to the event is free. Fans are asked to park behind the left field fence of FedExPark on the Memphis Park Avenue campus and to follow signs to the practice fields. The parking behind the right field wall is closed due to construction on the Billy J. Murphy Complex.
For the third-consecutive season, Memphis will travel up I-40 to Jackson, Aug. 15-18, to spend part of camp at the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus. The getaway is designed to bring the team closer together while continuing preparations for the season.
Tickets for the 2018 season are on sale now at www.GoTigersGoTix.com or available by calling 901-678-2331. Fans can purchase season ticket packages for all seven Tigers home games or tickets to any of the five road games.
