McKnatt, De Luca Awarded for Performances in Opening Week
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – First-year Tigers Peyton McKnatt and Artur De Luca were named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for their strong outings during the first week of the regular season.
The squad tied its home opener against SIUE by a score of 2-2, before hitting the road to Saint Louis, where the team defeated the Billikens 2-1.
McKnatt earned his first recognition after a two-goal match against SLU. The Germantown, Tenn., native became the first Memphis player since 2016 to score twice in a single game. Current Tiger Jackson Morse scored a pair of goals against UConn in 2016, his freshman season.
Also tabbed to the list was Artur De Luca, who logged two assists this weekend from his defensive position. His first assist came on the equalizing goal by Chris Mikus in the 86th minute of play against SIUE. The second helper was to McKnatt on Sunday, which gave Memphis a 2-0 lead in the first half.
Memphis continues a five-game road trip this weekend, playing a pair of matches at the UAB Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. Friday's match is slated for a 4:30 p.m. first touch against Coastal Carolina, followed by an 11 a.m. start against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.
