Men's tennis blanks UCF for 11th straight win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 17/20 Memphis men's tennis set the tone early and turned in a 4-0 sweep against No. 38 UCF on Sunday at the Racquet Club of Memphis for its 11th straight win.
Memphis (16-4, 4-0) swung the momentum in doubles with a tiebreak to decide the opening point, while wins at the top two spots and on court 6 sealed the win.
Down 1-0 early in doubles, duo Jan Pallares and Matt Story won six consecutive games to win 6-1 on court 3. The Knights (10-8, 1-1) evened the point on court 1, but tandem Kai Lemke and Felix Rauch outlasted Alan Rubio and Enrique Paya in a lengthy tiebreak, taking the No. 2 position 7-6(8).
The Tigers continued their surge in singles play. Senior Andrew Watson extended his win streak to 11 with a straight-set victory on court 2. Classmate Ryan Peniston took the top spot shortly after by a score of 7-5, 6-2 to extend the Memphis lead to 3-0.
Pallares provided the match-clinching win on court 6 to secure the sweep. The sophomore broke serve in the final game for a 7-5, 6-2 win and delivered his ninth consecutive victory.
The Tigers return to the court Saturday against Temple for their regular-season finale. First serve from the Racquet Club of Memphis is set for 10 a.m. Memphis will also honor its four seniors Saturday prior to first serve.
