Tigers drop match at USF

TAMPA, Fla. – Memphis women's tennis dropped a 4-1 decision at USF Friday afternoon in its second contest of a three-match, three-day stretch.

The Bulls took the opening doubles point and continued their momentum in singles action.

USF won the first two completed singles matches to extend its lead. The Tigers (8-6, 0-2) responded when sophomore Katherine Cao took court 6 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Cao's win extended her win streak to six consecutive singles matches.

Any bid for a comeback was silenced when USF took the match-clinching win at the top spot.

Hanna Sohn and Alisha Reayer held leads on courts 2 and 4, respectively, before their matches were suspended.

Memphis returns to action on Saturday at 5 p.m. when the Tigers travel to Lake Nona, Fla., to face No. 25 UCF at the USTA National Campus. The Golden Knights (9-2) enter the weekend with a three-match win streak.
