Mar 31, 2018 | Women's Tennis
DENTON, Texas – Memphis women's tennis scored a 4-0 road sweep against North Texas on Saturday afternoon for its fourth straight victory.
The Tigers (12-7, 2-3) worked quickly in doubles for the early advantage and added three singles victories to complete the sweep.
"I'm very proud of the effort and focus the team showed in today's match," head coach Hayden Perez said. "The conditions today were challenging, and the girls just put their head down and worked hard. UNT is a tough team and challenged us at every position. Today was a great team effort!"
For the second straight match, Lina Hohnhold, Katherine Cao and Laura Bente were the deciding matches in singles play for Memphis.
After clinching the match in the team's last outing against Middle Tennessee, Hohnhold was the first off the court Saturday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Cao followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win on court 5 for her ninth consecutive win in singles. Despite dropping the opening set in a tiebreak, Bente took the next two frames and provided the match-clinching victory for the Tigers.
Memphis returns to action Friday as the Tigers travel to UConn for a league match. Memphis will then close the weekend with a neutral-site contest against Boston University next Sunday.
