MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Entering the middle portion of a nine-match road stretch, the Memphis women's tennis team travels to Cincinnati for a key league matchup Thursday.
First serve from Western Tennis & Fitness Club is set for noon (CT) and will be the first American Athletic Conference match this spring for the Tigers.
Memphis (3-2) seeks to bounce back after its upset bid fell short against No. 15 Ole Miss. The Tigers feature the No. 54-ranked doubles team in the country in Hanna Sohn and Katherine Cao. The tandem has posted a 4-1 doubles mark in dual match play, including a ranked win against Ole Miss's No. 22 duo of Natalie Suk and Sabina Machalova last weekend.
Freshman Laura Bente also seeks to continue her impressive start to the spring season. The Germany native is out to a 3-1 singles record in dual match play and notched her first ranked win against the Rebels' No. 81 Natalie Suk.
The Bearcats (5-2) have won five of their last six matches and are winners of two in a row with wins against Miami (OH) and Lipscomb to open the month of February. Freshman Alexia Coutino went 4-0 last weekend and earned a pair of victories at No. 2 singles.
Memphis leads the all-time series against Cincinnati by a 10-8 margin.
Thursday's meeting also marks the first of three matches in four days for the Tigers in the Buckeye State. Memphis will travel to Oxford for a meeting with Miami (OH) on Saturday before facing Wright State in Dayton to cap the weekend.
