Tigers fall to Missouri to close weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. – A strong effort fell short for the Memphis women's tennis team, as the Tigers dropped a 4-2 match at Missouri Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers turned in another solid singles performance, with wins at the top two positions and hard-fought competition at every spot.
"Today was another great experience for our team, and I am very proud of this groups' effort," head coach Hayden Perez said. "We are very consistent in our approach and the way we are competing. Mizzou had to play well to beat us and it was a battle on every court. Great things are in store for this team as we continue to grow."
The Missouri Tigers (10-1) took the opening doubles point, but Memphis (6-4) responded well in singles play for the second time in as many matches. Senior Hanna Sohn was first off the court in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win to put Memphis on the board. The singles victory was also Sohn's fourth consecutive win.
The home Tigers regained the lead following a win on court 4, but senior Anki Wind knotted the match once again with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 win at the No. 2 spot. Wind has now won her last six singles matches.
Missouri found one final push, however, as the Tigers took courts 4 and 3 to set the 4-2 final and secure a win.
Memphis will close its 9-match road swing at Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon, the Tigers' fourth and final SEC opponent this season. Memphis will then return home for a Sunday match against Stephen F. Austin at 9 a.m. at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
