MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis, the Tigers' Athletic Department and the football team are in mourning following the Sunday passing of student manager Hunter Ki Brown. Brown spent the past two seasons at Memphis working within the Tiger football program.
"No words could ever express the emotion and grief that is felt over Ki's loss," head coach Mike Norvell said. "I will also be forever grateful for every day and moment I was blessed to work with such a phenomenal young man."
Brown suffered a motorcycle accident in late January and passed away Sunday.
"We are fortunate to be surrounded by students at this University who demonstrate what it means to serve as part of a team," Director of Athletics Tom Bowen said. "Ki was one such young man and his fellow students and the members of his football family are mourning his loss today. We offer our thoughts to his family and will make counselors available to his Tiger family here at Memphis as needed."
A graduate of Olive Branch High School in 2015, Brown played football for four seasons. He started in college athletics at Northeast Mississippi Community College, helping with statistics for football and baseball for two years before coming to Memphis. He was a junior business administration major at Memphis.
"Ki was a remarkable person whom I had the honor to work with," said Marc Hohorst, the head equipment manager. "He left an everlasting impression of his selflessness, hard work, and dedication to those around him. Our equipment staff is certainly thinking about Ki's family and friends. He will be greatly missed."
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday (Feb. 15) from 5-9 pm at CrossPointe Church (6400 Blocker Street) in Olive Branch, Mississippi. The funeral is scheduled for 2 pm Friday at Life Fellowship Church (7790 Davidson Road) in Olive Branch.
