Elmore Leads Tigers In Loss To SMU

Senior guard scored a team-high 11 points with six assists
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team suffered a 53-35 setback Saturday afternoon to SMU at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Brea Elmore led the Tigers with 11 points and was one assist away from matching her career-high of seven dimes.

How It Happened
The two squads both jumped out quick offensively and neither team had more than a five-point lead over each other. Going up as many as six early in the second quarter, SMU's lead was cut back down to one with 1:59 left in the first half on a pair of Taylor Barnes free throws.

A lay-up, however, with 10 seconds left in the half gave SMU a three-point edge over the Tigers.

The visiting Mustangs opened the second half strong, rattling off an 8-3 run to take a 34-26 lead over Memphis. Back-to-back three-pointers by SMU gave the Mustangs their first double-digit lead of the game with 3:44 remaining in the third.

The Tigers continued to battle throughout the rest of the contest, but were unable to put together runs offensively to cut into the SMU lead.

- Brea Elmore led the Tigers with 11 points and six assists. Elmore went 3-for-7 in three-pointers today for her 12th game with at least three made treys. Elmore is now 45 points shy of the 1,000-point milestone.
- Cheyenne Creighton finished with nine rebounds and six points.
- Taylor Barnes added eight points and seven rebounds with a team-high two steals.
