MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis freshman guard Tyler Harris earned American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honors Monday for his efforts in the UofM's victories over South Dakota State and UAB, while senior guard Jeremiah Martin made the league's Weekly Honor Roll.

Harris, a former Cordova High star, scored 22 in an 88-80 win over South Dakota State Tuesday at FedExForum and followed with a 24-point effort in Saturday's 94-76 victory over former league rival UAB. Monday's honor marked the second time this season he has been named conference Freshman of the Week. He also received the honor Nov. 19.

In the two wins last week, Harris went 8-of-19 from beyond the arc and made 12 of 13 free throws. Against UAB, he tied for the team lead with five assists and drew seven fouls. Harris was clutch in the closing minutes against the Blazers, going 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 4:33.

Through nine games this season, Harris is averaging 16.2 points to lead the Tigers. He also has a team-best 30 made 3-pointers and is shooting 89.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Martin, a preseason first-team all-conference selection, is the UofM's second-leading scorer at 14.1 points per game and leads the Tigers in assists (33) and steals (16). In the two wins last week, Martin had 36 points, including tying Harris for scoring honors with 22 against South Dakota State. Martin added 14 points against UAB and had a team-high five assists.

Against South Dakota State, Martin scored five points in the final 2:13 (including going 3-of-4 from the free throw line) to preserve the win. He also scored seven points in the closing six minutes against UAB, including a 3-pointer that extended the Memphis lead to 15 points (85-70) with 2:47 to go.

The Tigers (5-4) remain at home Saturday at 11 a.m. to play host to third-ranked Tennessee at FedExForum. The Vols (7-1) knocked off top-ranked Gonzaga, 76-73, Sunday in Phoenix.
