Live Results (USA Shooting Winter Airgun Championships)
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis rifle squad shot its final match of the fall semester Nov. 18 and returns to NCAA competition in mid-January. However, seven members of the Tigers team are fine-tuning their performances at this weekend's USA Shooting Winter Airgun Championships.
Â
The annual championships are set for Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The competition runs from 8:45 a.m. (CT) and goes until 6 p.m. (CT) each day. Competitors will shoot a 60-shot decimal airgun match Friday and Saturday, with a top-eight advancing to the finals to determine the medalists.
Â
"This is the first year we've had this many athletes representing Memphis at this match, so I am really excited to have us all here," said head coach Dan Hermsmeier. "There are hundreds of shooters competing this weekend, and it will be a great experience for our athletes to compete against some of the country's best. The match also will give us some great preparation going into second semester of our schedule."
Â
The championships also serve as a selection match for international world cups in 2019.
Â
The seven Tigers shooting this weekend are: Levi Clark, David Crenshaw, Leighton Dempster, Matt Dorey, Amberlie Ezell, Arielle Kimm and Mark Meyeraan. Dempster and Dorey have shot in previous USA Shooting Winter Airgun Championships.
Â
Memphis ended the fall portion of the 2018-19 season on a high note after a record-setting performance at the Nov. 18 Gamecock Invitational in Jacksonville, Ala. The Tigers shot a school-record aggregate of 4689 and posted a school-record 2332 mark in the smallbore discipline.
Â
As a result of their performance, the Tigers are ranked No. 4 in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll.
Â
After this weekend's USA Shooting Winter Airgun Championships, the team breaks for final exams and the Christmas/New Year's holidays. The Tigers return to action Jan. 20 versus Akron in Lexington, Ky.
