Memphis visits the state of South Carolina after falling at home to Louisiana Tech on Sunday. Alana Davis led the Tigers with 15 points and 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards. It marked her first double-double of the season, and the fifth of her career. Junior guard Taylor Barnes also contributed double-figure scoring, finishing with 10 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in 39 minutes played.
Â
All-time, the Tigers are 3-0 against Mercer, their first opponent. Memphis last defeated Mercer by a 54-40 margin on November 19, 2004 at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Memphis has never played against Coastal Carolina.
Â
Head coach of the Tigers is Melissa McFerrin. Now in her 11th season, McFerrin leads a youthful squad that has seven players that have never played in a Memphis uniform prior to this season.

Scouting Mercer
The Bears enter the weekend after a 76-42 loss to UCF on Sunday. After a competitive first half, the Knights were able to pull away in the second. Mercer was led in scoring by KeKe Callawoy and Linnea Rosendal, who each pitched in eight points. Against Florida, Calloway scored 30 points and added a career high 10 assists, and was named the SoCon Player of the Week for her efforts.
Â
Mercer is coached by Susie Gardner, the program's 10th head coach. Already the all-time leader in wins as a coach in program history, Gardner led the Bears to a 30-3 record a year ago, ending in a first round loss in the NCAA tournament against Georgia.

Looking at the Chanticleers
Coastal Carolina will play one game against Bowling Green on Friday before facing the Tigers on Sunday. In their previous outing, the Chanticleers lost their first game of the season against UC Riverside. DJ Williams and Aja Blount scored in double-figures, netting 18 and 12, respectively. This was a game that saw the Chanticleers grab 25 offensive boards, but were unable to finish opportunities.
Â
Caitlin Roche leads the team in total points, having scored 29 points in the young season. Seven players have contributed at least six points per contest thus far in 2018-19.
Â
Jaida Williams is head coach of Coastal Carolina, which joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2016. The Chanticleers finished 13-16 last season, including an 8-10 conference finish in their first season in the Sun Belt.
