Women’s Basketball Returns Home Against Louisiana Tech

Memphis looks to improve to 2-0 at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team looks to improve to 2-0 at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse with a home game against Louisiana Tech Sunday afternoon. Tip-off against the Lady Techsters is slated for 2 p.m. Overall, Memphis is 1-2 this season.

The Tigers are back in action Sunday against Conference USA foe Louisiana Tech. Although Memphis fell in the previous meeting last season on the road, the Tigers have won two out of the last three match-ups against the Lady Techsters. One of those wins was in 2016 when Memphis defeated LA Tech by a score of 56-54 at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
Through three games this season, Memphis is led offensively by freshman Jamirah Shutes. Shutes is averaging 16.0 points per game this season and has scored in double-digits all three contests.
Jasmine James led Memphis offensively for the first time on the road at UAB. James scored 12 points for the Tigers with two made three-pointers. After not making a three-pointer last season, James now has four this year.
Alana Davis also set new career marks with a career-high 13 rebounds against the Blazers. Davis is averaging a near double-double with 11.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.
Memphis is led by Melissa McFerrin who is currently in her 11th season at the helm of the Tiger program.

Louisiana Tech comes to Memphis with a 2-1 record including an overtime victory against Houston on Nov. 14. Against the Cougars, Louisiana Tech overcame an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime and win by a 12-point margin.
Senior guard Kierra Anthony led Louisiana Tech offensively against the Cougars with a C-USA single-game scoring record of 50 points. She is currently averaging 30.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.
In addition to Anthony, senior Taylor Stahly is averaging in double-figures with 13.7 points per contest. She has made a team-high nine three-pointers this season.
Louisiana Tech is under the direction of co-head coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr. Brooke Stoehr graduated from Louisiana Tech and helped lead the program to four NCAA Tournament appearances, two Elite Eights and one Final Four. She finished her LA Tech career as the NCAA's all-time leader in free throw percentage.
