Tigers Face Longtime Rival UAB Thursday

The Tigers and the Blazers are set to meet for the 53rd time in program history
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers continue their early-season road swing with a trip to Birmingham, Ala., to take on the UAB Blazers. Tip-off Thursday evening is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bartow Arena.
GAME THREE
Memphis (1-1) at UAB (1-0)
Tip-off: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Bartow Arena – Birmingham, Ala.

Memphis travels to Birmingham after falling to Arkansas State in its first road game of the season by a final score of 66-77. Freshman Jamirah Shutes led the team with 18 points, and Kiana Coomber led all players with 10 rebounds, including four offensive boards.
Alana Davis also scored in double figures, netting 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Junior guard Taylor Barnes showed her versatility, logging a stat line of six points, five boards, and five assists.
The Tigers now turn their attention to long-time rival UAB. Dating back to 1980, Memphis has played the Blazers 52 times, of which the Tigers have won the last six meetings.
Memphis has only played Southern Miss (57) more times than it has faced UAB. All three teams at one time were all members of Conference USA.
Scouting the Blazers
UAB started its season with a 80-61 win over Appalachian State last Friday. Miyah Barnes led all scorers with 19 point, followed closely by Deanna Kuzmanic's 17 points.
The Blazers have now won three consecutive opening games for the first time since 1994-97. UAB returned four starters from last season's squad, and 10 players overall from last season's roster.
UAB was picked to finish first in C-USA after winnings its first regular season C-USA Championship last season.
Head coach of UAB is Randy Norton, who enters the season with a 91-66 record in his five years as head coach. He was named the C-USA Coach of the Year last year after guiding UAB to a 27-7 overall record.
