Get To Know Me: Tyrez Lindsey
Oct 09, 2018 | Football
Sophomore defensive back is the Tigers' second-leading tackler.
Note: The Tyrez Lindsey "Get To Know Me" first appeared in the Tigers Football GameDay program Sept. 22 when Memphis hosted South Alabama.
Redshirt sophomore defensive back Tyrez Lindsey became a contributor for the Memphis defense in his first season of action in 2017. He had 39 total tackles – third among the Tigers defensive backs – in 11 appearances and logged seven multi-tackle performances.
Lindsey saved his best for the end of the 2017 campaign. He had six total stops in the Tigers' regular-season finale victory over ECU to wrap up a perfect 7-0 record at the Liberty Bowl. Then, a week later, Lindsey blew up versus UCF in the American Athletic Conference championship game. The Dothan, Ala., native posted 11 total tackles, with nine of them solo hits – both career highs. Lindsey was the team's second-leading tackler in the contest.
But, instead of accepting all the praise for himself, Lindsey quickly gives credit to his teammates for his inspiring play in that contest.
"I didn't want to let my teammates down, especially the seniors, and those who had put so much work in over the years to get to the championship game," said Lindsey. "I was looking to contribute any way possible and make an impact any way I could when my number was called."
And, he's continuing to make an impact in 2018. Lindsey is the team's second-leading tackler with 16 total stops and has forced one fumble.
Let's learn more about Lindsey away from the field.
Â
I started playing football… When I was 10-years-old in pee wee football. I played defensive end when I was little. I didn't start playing defensive back until high school. I enjoyed playing defensive end. Growing up, I was a long, skinny kid, so it was easy getting off the edge.
My most embarrassing moment on the football field was… Our team had this thing where we didn't put our helmets on until close to game time. So, the game was seconds from starting, and I ran on the field not realizing I didn't have my helmet on. I had to borrow a helmet from a teammate on the sideline. I didn't have a mouthpiece. I was readjusting the helmet because it wasn't mine. The play was really close to going off without me wearing a helmet.
The social media platform I enjoy the most is… Twitter, because it makes me laugh.
When not at practice, you'll find me… At home. I don't move around too much. If you do see me out, I'm with my teammates.
This past summer, I… Spent time with my family. Football season doesn't give me much time with my family, so during the summer I made sure to spend my free time with them.
If I won the lottery, I would… Buy my mother a house, buy myself a car and then I'll stash the rest
If I were a superhero, the super power I'd like to have is… To fly. If you can fly, you can do whatever you want to do.
If I didn't play football, I'd play… Basketball because I played the sport all the way through high school. I played small forward and point guard. I enjoyed playing point guard because I had the ball in my hands and dished it out to others.
#1 thing on my "bucket list"… Travel to Dubai and ride in a car beside a cheetah. I've seen some videos of it on Twitter.
Favorite meal my mom cooks… Ham on Thanksgiving. I used to really love it before I stopped eating pork.
The other sports I played growing up were… Basketball and tee-ball. I played tee-ball, but I was horrible. I kept striking out. I stopped playing baseball altogether after that.
Nobody can believe I watch (television show)… Supernatural
One word that best describes me is… Curious
My favorite television as a child was… Dragon Ball Z
My favorite website is… Twitter.com
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be with… Kevin Garnett, because I'm a big Celtics fan. When I was in middle school, all my friends were picking their favorite teams, and I picked the Celtics because they were great at the time. I fell in love with the team, the brotherhood they had. Those guys really cared about each other.
The most famous person I met was… Shaquille O'Neal at a national basketball tournament in the summer. His son was playing in the same tournament in Orlando.
Dream job is… To become a city planner
