Alaniz awarded Rookie of the Week, Hofmann named to Honor Roll
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Midfielder Edgar Alaniz and goalkeeper Tyler Hofmann were awarded weekly accolades for the past week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Alaniz was named conference Rookie of the Week, and Hofmann was listed on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Alaniz scored his second goal of the season in the draw against Temple. After a Memphis shot came off of the post, Alaniz collected the rebound and fired it in for the score. The award is the first Rookie of the Week nod for the midfielder, who now has two weekly recognitions this season.
Hofmann was named to the Honor Roll after tying a season high with five saves against Temple. The junior goalkeeper kept the Owls' offense at bay, allowing just one goal in 110 minutes. The outing was Hofmann's sixth match allowing one or fewer goals this season. The Honor Roll spot is Hofmann's third weekly award of the season.
This marks the third week of the season that multiple Tigers have been awarded weekly honors in a week.
Memphis is on the road again to start the week, playing Central Arkansas at 2 p.m., on Tuesday. The Tigers will follow that up by hosting SMU on Friday at 7 p.m.
