Bawden, Harris lead Memphis into event at College Grove, Tenn.
COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's golf team will travel to College Grove to participate in the Intercollegiate at The Grove, which will be played Sunday through Tuesday at the Greg Norman-designed course.
Â
The teams will play 18 holes each day.
Â
The Tigers will be participating in their third event of the fall after a second-place finish in the Memphis Intercollegiate Sept. 17-18 at Colonial Country Club and a 10th-place finish in the 16-team field at The Windon Memorial Golf Classic Sept. 23-24 outside Chicago.
Â
The Intercollegiate at The Grove will feature a strong field, including nationally ranked Louisville (No. 23) and Ole Miss, which is led by the world's top-ranked amateur, Braden Thornberry. Thornberry, the 2017 NCAA champion, has won the past two Intercollegiate tournaments.
Â
"This field is really solid with quite a few teams that will be in post-season," said Memphis coach Blake Smart. "Just like (at The Windon Memorial), it will be a good measuring stick for us to see how we stack up nationally."
Â
Other teams in the field included Cincinnati and South Florida from the American Athletic Conference along with Southeastern Conference programs Kentucky and Ole Miss. Middle Tennessee is hosting the event.
Â
Through two events, the Tigers have been paced by seniors Bradley Bawden and Chase Harris. Bawden finished fourth at the Memphis Intercollegiate by shooting a 6-under 210 and followed with a 14th-place finish at the Windon Memorial. Harris fired a career-low 66 in the final round at the Memphis Intercollegiate and finished fifth, two shots behind Bawden.
Â
Others making the trip for the Tigers will be senior Mikko Kauniskangas from Finland; junior Isaiah Jackson, a transfer from Meridian Community College and freshman Landon Carner from Birmingham.
