Memphis Falls To Missouri In Battle Of The Tigers
Oct 20, 2018 | Football
Patrick Taylor Jr. rushes for over 100 yards, Memphis becomes first Missouri opponent this season to rush for 200 yards
Â
Memphis spent the majority of the contest without the nation's leading rusher in Darrell Henderson who left the game after the second drive.
                         Â
Taylor's 115-yard performance marked the sixth time in his career he eclipsed the century mark on the ground. Missouri came into the contest allowing just four rushing touchdowns through six games. No Missouri opponent had more than one rushing score and Taylor had two on his own. Memphis was also the first to rush for 200 yards against Missouri.
Â
Damonte Coxie led the Memphis offense with 111 receiving yards, 12 shy of matching his career-high. Quarterback Brady White hurled 208 yards with two touchdowns including one to Coxie.
Â
Missouri jumped out to a 21-0 lead, capitalizing on a blocked punt and an interception in the first two drives.
Â
With 2:15 remaining in the first, Memphis' Riley Patterson kicked the first of two field goals to put the Blue and Gray on the board.
Â
Patterson's three points ignited a 17-0 run by Memphis to pull within four of Missouri, which included a one-yard rushing touchdown by Taylor and 30-yard pass to Tony Pollard.
Â
Pollard finished the day with a team-high 130 all-purpose yards after rushing for 75 and pulling down 44 in the air.
Â
Missouri had an answer to Memphis' strong second quarter start with three-straight touchdowns. A fourth-down conversion followed up by a 58-yard touchdown sparked Missouri's response to the Tigers. Patterson snapped that offensive surge with a career-long 52-yard field goal with 2:41 before the half to make it a 41-20 game.
Â
The Tigers tacked on seven points in the third and six in the fourth, but was unable to overcome the first half deficit they had accumulated. Memphis falls to 4-4 on the year.
Â
Memphis is off next weekend and returns to action on Nov. 3 with a road trip to ECU. Â
