Oct 18, 2018 | Men's Cross Country
Freshman is one of six Memphis area products on the 2018 team.
Today's Memphis cross country "Get To Know Me" is Avery Wood. A freshman from Bartlett, Tenn., Wood is one of three Tigers on the 2018 squad from Bartlett High School along with Brendan Hill and Benjamin Homeyer. Wood has raced in all five events in his first collegiate season, and he ran his 8k-best time in his last outing in the UAB Blazer Classic.
Â
Before becoming a Tiger, Wood helped the Bartlett Panthers cross country program to back-to-back appearances in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Class 3A state championships in 2016 and 2017. The Panthers placed fifth and fourth in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and the 2017 fourth-place performance was the best by a Memphis area school since 2011. Wood, a Commercial AppealAll-Metro Team pick, finished in the top-30 in both state championships races (27thin 2016; 30thin 2017).
