Oct 15, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
Sophomore logged double-doubles in the Tigers' two wins last weekend.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis sophomore Hannah Flowers has been named to the American Athletic Conference volleyball Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. It is Flowers' second conference accolade of her career.
Â
It is the third time this season the 6-foot-2 right side hitter has been recognized for her play on the court. She was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week Sept. 5 and followed with her first American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll distinction Sept. 10.
Â
Last weekend, Flowers helped lead Memphis to a 2-0 weekend with conference victories over Houston 3-1 and SMU 3-2. With the conference weekend sweep, the Tigers improved to 9-10 overall and 2-5 in the league.
Â
In the two matches, the Wildwood, Mo., native logged 38 kills (4.22 kills/set), 23 digs, nine total blocks and two service aces. She recorded double-doubles (kills-digs) in both matches, the fifth and sixth of her career.
Â
Flowers had 18 kills and a career-high 13 digs in the Oct. 12 victory over Houston. Her 13 digs surpassed her previous career-best 12 digs which she set twice earlier this season in wins over Florida A&M Aug. 31 and Louisiana Monroe Sept. 7. Against SMU Oct. 14, Flowers tied two career-highs with 20 kills and six total blocks. Five of her 20 kills versus the Mustangs came in the fifth and deciding set. Flowers previously had 20 kills in the Sept. 11 win at Ole Miss and posted six total blocks versus Central Arkansas Sept. 1.
Â
With her 38 kills last weekend, Flowers went over 500 for her career. She now has 510 career kills. Her two double-digit kills performances over the weekend give her 16 for the season and 28 for her career.
Â
Flowers leads the Tigers with 253 kills and 31 service aces this season. She is second on the team in total blocks with 53. She ranks among the American Athletic Conference statistical leaders in hitting percentage (7th; .306), kills (4th; 3.56/set) and aces (2nd; 0.44/set).
Â
The Tigers return to the court this weekend with road league matches at Temple Friday and Connecticut Sunday. It is Memphis' first road trip since Sept. 23.
