Women's tennis advances three to quarterfinals of ITA Regional Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's tennis advanced two singles players and one doubles team to the quarterfinal round at the ITA Regional Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Juniors Josephine Cao and Claire Sullivan both etched two singles victories in the B Flight singles draw to move to the tournament's quarterfinal round. In doubles, sophomore duo Laura Bente and Alisha Reayer collected two victories to earn a spot in the doubles quarterfinal round.

Cao began the day with a straight-set victory against Northern Kentucky's Katja Dijanezevic and then added a 6-4, 6-1 win against Miami's Lena Babunski. Sullivan followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against IUPUI's Gabrielle Ochalik before earning a spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 7-6 win against Jilian Milano of Wright State.

After a first-round bye in doubles, Bente and Reayer began competition with an 8-4 victory and capped the day behind an 8-3 win against Kentucky's six-seeded duo to advance to the quarterfinal round. Bente and Reayer also each claimed a singles victory in the Round of 64 main draw before dropping their respective decisions in the Round of 32.

The Tigers are set for Day 3 action of the ITA Regional Championships, with competition beginning at noon.
