Memphis posts strong effort on Day 2 of ITA Regional Championships

Pallares, Taylor advance to doubles quarterfinal round

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis men's tennis collected six wins on the second day of the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Tennessee.

Tiger duo Jan Pallares and Jeremy Taylor earned a spot in the quarterfinal round of doubles after retiring the tournament's 13-seeded squad from Kentucky. Pallares and Taylor will face Middle Tennessee's Tom Moonen and Chris Edge on Saturday.

In the main draw of singles play, junior Matt Story collected a straight-set victory and Pallares claimed a three-set thriller to advance to the Round of 32 before both dropping their next matches.

In singles consolation, three Tigers posted wins on Day 2. Senior Chris Patzanovsky earned a tiebreak win to record a straight-set victory. Junior Marshall Sullivan also went the distance, outlasting Pablo Lleibeili of Chattanooga in a super tiebreak. Taylor picked up his second victory of the day behind a 6-1, 6-1 effort against Northern Kentucky's Blaine Carr.

The Tigers will open Day 3 action from Knoxville, Tenn., with doubles beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT.
