Tigers Volleyball Drops Match To Temple Sunday

Myers has sixth double-double of the season.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – University of Memphis senior Faith Myers posted a double-double of 14 assists and 11 digs, but Temple defeated the Tigers 3-0 in American Athletic Conference volleyball action Sunday.
Temple won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15. With the setback, Memphis fell to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the league. The Owls improved to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Memphis returns home next weekend to host its American Athletic Conference home-opening weekend. The Tigers host UCF Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. (CT) and USF Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. (CT).

- Six Tigers got their first taste of American Athletic Conference action this weekend. The six newcomers were four freshmen (Hannah Flowers, Kate Hoerdemann, Alyssa Kronberg, Daija Lowe), one junior college transfer (Kelsea Bivins) and one redshirt freshman (Natale Zanellato).
- Senior Faith Myers logged her sixth double-double (assists-digs) performance of the season.
- Myers' 14 assists Sunday were her fewest in a match this season.
- Freshman Kate Hoerdemann's nine digs were her third-highest total for a match in 2017.
- Sophomore Brianna Kadiku was credited with four total blocks Sunday. It is the 10th match this season in which she had four or more total blocks, including the last four in a row.

How It Happened
- Overall Match
- The match had only seven ties and two lead changes, all coming in the second set.
- Memphis' record in three-set matches is 5-2 this season.
- Set One (Temple 25-17)
- The home team jumped out to a 4-0 lead and increased it to 7-1.
- Memphis closed to within two at 9-7 on a 6-2 spurt. Two Natale Zanellato kills keyed the run.
- The Tigers remained within striking distance midway through the set, as a Brianna Kadiku kill pulled Memphis to within two at 14-12.
- From that point, the Owls finished the opening set with an 11-5 run.
- Set Two (Temple 25-16)
- The second game was neck-and-neck early with all seven ties coming in the first 20 points.
- Memphis held leads at 5-4 and 6-5 on kills from Zanellato and Faith Myers, respectively.
- Temple pulled out to a 10-7 advantage only to watch the Tigers go on a 3-0 run to knot the set at 10-all. Hannah Flowers had a kill in the spurt.
- As it did in the opening set, Temple put together a decisive run – this time, 7-0 – to push out to a 17-10 lead.
- A Kendall Seering service ace pulled Memphis to within 18-13, but the Tigers got no closer the rest of the way.
- Set Three (Temple 25-15)
- Similar to the first set, Temple roared out to an early advantage and never trailed. The Owls had early leads of 3-0, 6-1 and 9-2.
- The Tigers battled back with a 5-0 spurt to cut the Owls' lead to 9-7. A Tai Bierria kill and a Kadiku-Myers block ignited the run.
- Memphis was within two at 10-8 when Temple put together a 9-1 run to grab a 19-9 lead and put the set and match out of reach.
