Women’s Golf Posts Top Five Finish

Three Lady Tigers finish in the top 20.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team fired a day three 288 to finish fifth at the 17-team Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman University in South Carolina, Sunday. Host Furman won the event with an 857, followed by Daytona State at 867. Memphis finished four strokes behind Middle Tennessee (875) for the top five finish.
Memphis had three players finish in the top 20 led by Michaela Fletcher's eighth place finish. For the second straight day, Fletcher carded an even par 72 to finish with a 215 (-1). Sydney Colwill finished in a tie for 12th with a day three 70, her best round of the event, to finish at 219 (+3). Emily Goldenstein rounded out the top 20 finishers for Memphis with a 71 on Sunday. That moved her in to a tie for 16th overall at 220 (+4).
Abby Herrmann was the fourth scorer for Memphis, finishing with a 76 on Sunday for a 227 (+11) for the event. She finished in a tie for 45th overall.
Madison Thomas carded her best round of the event on Sunday, firing a 75 to finish at 230 (+14), good for 56th overall.
Jiwon Jeon of Daytona State grabbed individual medalist honors with a 205 (-11), a two stroke lead over Furman's Haylee Harford. Madison Caldwell from Kennesaw State finished third at 209, and Middle Tennessee's Jenna Burris and Furman's Alice Chen tied for fourth at 212.
In all, eight golfers, including Fletcher, finished under par for the tournament.
Memphis will be back in competition Oct. 1-3, competing in the Magnolia Invitational in Starkville, Mississippi. That event will be one of three in the month of October for the Lady Tigers. Memphis will also compete in the University of Louisville's Cardinal Cup (Oct. 21-22) and the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 31-Nov. 1).
