MEMPHIS – Former Memphis women's golfer Marissa Steen will tee off at 2:42 p.m. (ET) on Thursday in her second-ever US Women's Open, hosted at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.
Steen, who is in her second year as a full member of the LPGA Tour, will go off in the last threesome off hole one. She is paired with Carly Booth and amateur Morgane Metraux for the 72nd annual event.
A 2012 graduate of the University of Memphis, Steen is the first Lady Tiger grad to earn her LPGA Tour Card. At Memphis, she was a two-time C-USA all-conference honoree and was the C-USA Championship tournament runner-up in 2011. A four-time NGCA All-American Scholar, she graduated with Memphis' single-season scoring record (73.97 strokes/round) and won six individual medalist honors in her career, including three tournaments in her junior year.
After graduation, she played in 13 events on the Symetra Tour, making nine cuts, posting two top-10 finishes and one top five finish. In 2014, she was named the Symetra Tour Player of the Year and earned her first LPGA Tour Card. In her first year on the tour, 2015, she suffered a rib injury that cost her a bulk of the season and a chance to maintain her tour card.
Back on the Symetra Tour in 2016, she finished eighth on the money list to earn her way back to the LPGA Tour, where she has competed in 14 events so far this season, making the cut in eight events. In last week's Thornberry Creek Classic, she finished tied for 49th, making her third cut in four events, a stretch which also included qualifying for the US Women's Open Field.
In her first US Women's Open, in 2014, she shot a 154 over two rounds at Pinehurst Resort Course No. 2, missing the cut.
