Tigers jumper holds a 3.99 GPA in business economics.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of Memphis junior Olushola Olojo has been named to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 3 first team for men's track and field/cross country, the national organization announced Thursday.
The team, voted on by the CoSIDA membership, recognizes the top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The London, England, native now qualifies for the CoSIDA national Academic All-America ballot.
It is the third-straight year the Tigers men's track and field/cross country team had a performer earn CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 recognition. The last two years (2014-15, 2015-16), former multi-event standout Luis Hanssler was voted to the CoSIDA academic all-district squad.
Olojo has a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average in studying business economics at the University.
In his two years at Memphis, Olojo has competed primarily in the indoor season. He jumped in only two meets in the 2017 outdoor campaign as a result of injuries. Olojo placed fourth in the triple jump (49-11.75; 15.23m) at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships May 14. He also competed in the long jump at the Ole Miss/Joe Walker Invitational in late March.
Olojo had an outstanding 2016-17 indoor season with his biggest highlight coming at the American Athletic Conference Championships, where he claimed the league's indoor triple jump crown. He won the conference title with a personal-best mark of 50-6.25 (15.40m).
Olojo had three other top-two triple jumps finishes in the 2016-17 indoor campaign. He won the title at Southern Illinois' Don DeNoon Invitational and was runner-up at the Vanderbilt Opener and Arkansas State Invitational.
In 2015-16, Olojo competed solely in the indoor campaign and won two silvers (runner-up) in the long and triple jump at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. His 23-7.5 (7.20m) mark in the long jump at the 2016 league indoor meet is a personal-best.
Olojo has 10 top-three performances in the long and triple jumps combined in his time at Memphis.
