Tigers Track And Field Sweeps High Jump Crowns

Wesner wins men's high jump, Burns-Moore women's crown.
OXFORD, Miss. – University of Memphis' Saida Burns-Moore and Jordan Wesner swept the women's and men's high jump titles, respectively, in second-day action at Ole Miss' Joe Walker Invitational Saturday. It is the second-straight day the Tigers took both crowns in an event, as they claimed the men's and women's javelin Friday.
Burns-Moore won the women's high jump with a 5-5 (1.65m) mark, and Wesner took the men's high jump at 7-1 (2.16m).
Memphis had three additional top-three performances Saturday. On the men's side, Yannik Schaly was third in the men's shot put (58-7; 17.85m) and Rafael Vallery third in the men's discus (173-1; 52.75m). Dorina Baiker recorded a third-place finish in the women's pole vault (12-7.5; 3.85m).
2017 Joe Walker Invitational/Day Two Highlights
- Junior Michael Carey posted a personal-best time (53.74) in the men's 400-meter hurdles. His previous best time was 54.09 as a freshman in 2015.
- Sophomore Jordan Wesner was just 0.5 inches shy of tying his career-best in claiming the men's high jump crown Saturday. He posted his career-high 7-1.5 (2.17m) twice last season at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships and NCAA East Preliminaries. Wesner placed second in the high jump at those meets.
- Junior Rafael Vallery placed fourth in the men's shot put with an outdoor personal-best toss of 56-10.5 (17.33m). His previous outdoor best was 55-5.75 (16.91m) set at the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championships.
- Sophomore Saida Burns-Moore tied her career-best outdoor high jump in winning the women's title Saturday. She jumped 5-5 (1.65m), tying her personal-best she set last season as a freshman at the University of the District of Columbia.
