Feb 03, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Tigers grab two sweeps.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis men's tennis team (4-2) grabbed a pair of shutouts in non-conference action Friday against UAPB (0-6).
The two non-conference matches gave Memphis a chance to get the depth of the lineup some dual season singles matches before a road slate takes the Tigers away from Memphis for the remainder of the month of February.
In the first match, Memphis grabbed straight set wins at all six singles spots, giving Matt Story, Shakeel Manji and Turner Voges their first dual singles wins of the spring. Andrew Watson got his first win of the spring at one , while Chris Patzanovsky won at two and Kei Lemke at three.
In the second matchup Friday evening, Ryan Peniston was back atop the singles lineup, grabbing a 6-0, 6-1 win. Freshman Jan Pallares then moved up to two singles for a straight set win.
Memphis will take a break from competition while the Memphis Open takes over the Racquet Club. The Tigers will be back in action on Feb. 17th at Indiana.
Two pairs of former Tigers will participate in the doubles draw at the Memphis Open. Current volunteer assistant coach Cedric De Zutter and Connor Glennon won an at-large entry in to the draw by winning the Southern Open, while Joe Salisbury and David O'Hare, have also earned a wild card into the draw. O'Hare and Salisbury will play in the ATP Challenger doubles final in Dallas on Saturday.
